All around the world with Spotify

January 26th, 2010

We can enjoy some of the CitySpeaker city audio guide collections on Spotify. These include Paris, Rome, New York , London and many others. There are French and English versions of the main cities, although right now it seems like there are more french than english guides (the company is French, after all). Theses guides are another reason to go premium so you can enjoy this city guides on the proper place (via your Iphone, Android or Symbian phone while on the actual city if possible)

The quality of this guides is superb, they’re are recorded in a jovial and entertaining way. Of course, you may want to buy the original guides as they include maps and booklets wich may be of interest.  In case you’re just trying to revive that last summer’s trip Spotify may be just enough.

How to travel on a budget (Spotify edition)

October 2nd, 2009

I guess this is what they call ‘niche market’ as I don’t know many people who would buy an audio travel guide, not about a particular place but about how to travel on the cheap. It includes advise on planning the trip, cheap hotels, traveling with kids  and what can go wrong. Huge tips as: ‘if you want to travel cheap, book cheap hotels’ (duh!) or ‘Australia off-peak is not that expensive’ (?)

Anyway, if you really are into audio travel guides, I recommend you to go to The Guardian website, where they have serveral guides, many of them by famous citizens of those places (look for the ‘My Home Town’ series). Also check The Amateur Traveler podcast or the Travel section of any Podcast directory, like digitalpodcast.com.
